Episode 15- Most Leaders Misunderstand Advancement

The one great thing about being human is that we all have the ability to improve and change our life whenever we want. It doesn’t matter if you’re at your lowest low or if you are happy with the results you have achieved so far in life; it’s natural for you to want more. Don’t get me wrong on this; this is not a sign of greed, but rather a very healthy part of your human existence. However, did you know that most leaders misunderstand advancement? No matter how rewarding a promotion can be, there’s always that possibility it might signal the end of your career.

How? Take an NFL coach for the Tennessee Titans, for example. Their coach probably started off as a high school coach and fought his way up to eventually coach one of the biggest football teams in the US. Nonetheless, what would happen if he were to fail in his role and lose his job? Odds are, his next team would not be as big as the Tennessee Titans, so essentially a demotion.

All I’m saying is that it’s not wrong to go after promotions and career advancement, but you must be intentional about how you go about doing it. I believe the higher up you advance in your career, the closer you are to the bottom of the organizational pyramid. So, watch out!

Tune in to learn the real-life lessons about the real truth on career advancement and how we should be viewing advancement in today’s workplace.
